About the band...

The Day Trippers is comprised of three highly-experienced musicians - Michael Spooner on guitar and vocals; Dave Smith, bass and vocals; and drummer Mike Oakley - all dedicated to playing 60s-style rock'n'roll, drawing the core 'power trio' repertoire from the huge bands of that decade, but also plundering musical gems from the 70s and 80s, and even the 50s, to produce a swinging hard-hitting mix of rock classics from the last fifty years.

The Day Trippers' repertoire also showcases the giant reverb-soaked guitar instrumentals of the era, from the Shadows, Ventures, Santo and Johnny, and Australia's very own Atlantics.

But while the Day Trippers play hard, they also sing hard, paying homage to the rich vocal harmonies that epitomized the era - Beatles, Stones, Queen, Beach Boys, you name it - which blend with the guitar-driven riffs to capture the authentic 'sound' of rock's greatest hits.

Guitarist/vocalist Michael Spooner is the driving force behind the Day Trippers. Mick came to Port Macquarie in 2012 to present the Morning show on ABC Mid North Coast  and has had the Day Trippers up and performing in various incarnations since 2014.

Mick has a musical career spanning nearly 40 years, encompassing multiple modes of performance: hard rock and blues (Southerly Buster, Texas Radio), specialist 60s bands (The Echoes, Australian Beatles Show, Stars On 45), show bands (Gidget's Beach Party, Countdown Explosion), pit musician for musical theatre (Grease, Sweet Charity, Bye Bye Birdie, Chess, Joseph, Annie, Oklahoma, Honk, Seussical, Spamalot), to Dirty Dick's Theatre Restaurant.

The Day Trippers sound is filled out by Canadian drummer Mike Oakley and english bass-player/vocalist Dave Smith, both whom bring a wealth of experience to the band - but they refuse to reveal anything to us here, so it must have been good! â€‹

It is this incredibly diverse range of live musical and theatrical performance experience that Mick, Dave and Mike inject into the Day Trippers, which makes every song and every gig a memorable one.
